Day 15: Arriving at La Foret

Writer's picture: QuanitaQuanita

We arrived at La Foret Conference and Retreat Center today. What an amazing place. This retreat center is in the Black Forest in Colorado Springs. Years ago I lived in Colorado Springs and had heard a lot about the Black Forest but I never got to visit. It is interesting to me that over twenty years later and a month before my was-band (ex-husband) is going to move back to Colorado Springs I would be here.

I am doing work with the Rocky Mountain Conference of the UCC and this is one of the places that fall under them.

This place is surrounded by ponderosa pines, there are multiple cabins and meeting spaces and there is the Taylor Memorial Chapel that was built in 1929 and is in a Santa Fe mission style. This wonderful church place is decorated with colorful wood carvings. It feels like church.

The abundance of this trips continues. La Foret has just opened their new lodge, the Lapp Lodge and we are the first adult group to stay and work in this new building. It is quite wonderful. I am already starting to dream about what retreats I could host here.

Tomorrow we will be join by 22 leaders in the Rocky Mountain Conference. We have been talking about how this is the first time that staff, board, clergy, and committee members have all gathered at a retreat together.

We are focused on connection first, and then the future of church. As with lots of other places we are asking the questions of; Who are we now? Who do we want to be? What is needed to be those people? And, Where do we go from here? I am excited to see what we discover.
