Day 64 - Sacred Space, Spirit & Beauty

Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe. I was struck by the beauty of this sacred space. As I was standing in this place I started thinking about how spirit loves beauty. How easy it would be to get caught up in all the gold and extravagant material wealth in the space but I felt something different.

Standing there I thought about the mega churches that are build in what seems like overnight. You know the ones that have very few windows and are like warehouses. I think they have missed the point. Churches or cathedrals in the past were built over years, decades in some cases. They are sacred spaces filled with beautiful art.

In some indigenous communities there is no word for art. Art is believed to be spirit brought down to the ground. I felt the beauty of the stain glass windows the painted, gold embossed walls as the presence of spirit. It felt like spirit brought to the ground to me.
