Day 1: Does the Inside Match the Outside?

There is a group that I meet with regularly, we met yesterday and were so inspired that we challenged each other to a write a blog post for 100 days. So here goes...

In this call Rhea said something that stopped me in my tracks. She often says things that stop me in my tracks that is one of the many reasons that I love her so much. She said that she was talking to a client about peace and what brings you peace. What she came up with for herself was, “When her insides and her outsides (emotions) match she experiences peace. 🤯 She went on to say when she is happy on the inside and what is happening around her is happy on the outside she experiences peace. When she is sad on the inside and things are happy on the outside (when the two are different) she doesn’t experience peace.

This touches me for lots of reasons, one is that I am currently serving on a non-for-profit board which holds the vision of “A more peaceful, equitable, and inclusive world”. I'm here now writing this blog post. This is a place where for the past 23 years I have often felt my own inside and outside match. This is also a place where over the past couple of years I have spent more time where the inside of me and the outside didn’t match. This is a main reason that I decided to join the board.

This also brings up for me the power of circle practice. I had a great conversation with Christina Baldwin, the co-author of The Circle Way: A Leader in Every Chair. about the power of circle and the importance of it now in the world. If you don't have her book, check it out. The power of intentionally leaning into the center together and sharing our hearts with each other. I do believe that this is a place that we not only can remember that we belong to each other but that we are each other. It's a place where we can often find the inside matching the outside.

So, here it is the 1st day of a 100 day journey. Please come along with me. Let me know what stands out for you. Let me know what seems true to you or what doesn’t. Join me in a journey of learning in public.

See you soon,

Quanita
